Barbara Starks Obituary

Barbara J. Starks, a beacon of love and joy, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on September 17, 1932, in Baltimore City, Maryland, Barbara's life was a radiant example of dedication to family and a zest for life that was contagious to all who knew her.

A loving wife and partner to the late Lester Starks, Jr. for 50 years, Barbara's role as the heart of her family could be felt through her unwavering support and care. Her son, Lester "Ray" Starks, III and his wife Karen, alongside the memory of her late son James W. Starks, were a testament to the devotion and strength she embodied as a mother. Barbara's love further blossomed into the role of Gi-Gi to her cherished grandchildren, Bryan, Scott and his wife Brittany, Megan and her husband Richard, Patrick and his wife Anna, and her precious great-grandchildren, Emma, Elliott, Avery, Connor, Emery, Mackenzie, Eli, Addie, and Heidi. Her guiding hand and tender presence will be deeply missed by each of them.

Known for her innate ability to make any house a home, Barbara filled her days with the warmth of homemade meals and the sweetness of her Pecan Tarts and "Pretzel Jello Cake." Her culinary delights were a cornerstone of family gatherings. Despite Baltimore's heat, she could always be spotted in her favorite sweater, exuding coziness and comfort.

In her younger years in Clifton Park, Barbara cultivated lifelong friendships while sharing laughter, card games, coffee, and the occasional Salem Slim. The memories created during those quintessential Baltimore days remained dear to her heart.

Barbara's adventurous spirit shone brightly when she and Lester Sr. embarked on a three-month country-wide journey, deciding to return only "when we ran out of money." Their love and companionship were the stuff of family legend. At home, her pride was evident in her flourishing veggie garden, and she relished sitting on her porch soaking in the sunshine.

Loving, in every sense of the word, Barbara’s legacy will continue through the lives she touched. Her joy, warmth, and nurturing heart will forever be imprinted on those who had the privilege to love and be loved by her. Barbara's radiant spirit has left an indelible mark, and though she will be profoundly missed, her memory will be a blessing to all.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Barbara's life at the family owned Evans Life Celebration Home -8800 Harford Road, Parkville MD 21234 for a visitation on Wednesday, March 27th 2024, from 4-8PM.
