Merrie L. Shelley, aged 95, of North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 15, 1928, Merrie led a life characterized by her profound devotion to her family, her joyous spirit, and her unwavering zest for life.
Merrie was the loving wife of 73 years to the late Clarence “Gordon” Shelley, and together they built a legacy of love that will be cherished for generations. She was a devoted mother to her children, Merrie Crawford and her husband William, Judith Shelley, Timothy Shelley and his wife Jeanie, and Mark Shelley. Her life was further enriched by her grandchildren, Tim, Mark, Josh, Kate, Zach, Luke, and Caroline, as well as her eight great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly and took great joy in their every accomplishment and adventure.
Throughout her years, Merrie was a dedicated homemaker, ensuring that her family's home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the delicious scents of her legendary Southern cooking. She was passionate about life, cultivating a particular fondness for the fanciful Brambly Hedge woodland creatures and the adventures of the little mice in vintage clothing. Her love for music and singing was infectious, and she was a familiar face at the Children's Theater in Baltimore, where she contributed her talents and enthusiasm.
Merrie will be remembered for her insatiable curiosity and love of travel, having crossed the country three times in her Blue Chevy Luxury Van. She was an avid foodie, delighting in her culinary creations, especially fried green tomatoes, yams, Belgium waffles, berry cobbler, and her favorite vanilla and strawberry shakes.
Above all, Merrie will be forever celebrated for her loving nature, her wit, and the laughter she brought to others. Her precious dog, "Love Mutt" Charlie Brown, having been a cherished member of the family.
Merrie leaves behind a multitude of loving family and friends, each of whom she touched with her vibrant spirit and generous heart. Her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Merrie's life at the family owned Evans Life Celebration Home - 8800 Harford Road, Parkville MD 21234, for a Receiving of Friends on Saturday, March 23rd 2024, from 11AM-1PM.
